Fri, Apr 18: Students submitted their ELISA labs and the second part of the Alu insert lab analysis.
Thurs, Apr 17: Students conducted the ELISA lab (Mrs. Annee gave a pre-lab lecture in periods 1 and 7).
Wed, Apr 16: Students in periods 1 and 7 analyzed gels and completed the first part of the Alu Insertion lab and submitted it to Mrs. Annee. Period 5 students learned about upcoming ELISA lab via a pre-lab lecture.
Tues, Apr 15: Students took a quiz over the Got Protein? lab, isoelectric point, and serum proteins. Students also participated in a Hardy-Weinberg activity by calculating the allele frequencies of some human characteristics. Period 5 students completed the first portion of their PV92 Alu Insertion lab and submitted it to Mrs. Annee.
Mon, Apr 14: Students loaded their PV92 Alu Insertion gels.
Fri, Apr 11: Students participated in a bioethics debate about prenatal genetic testing.
Thurs, Apr 10: Students isolated DNA from cheek cells and amplified a portion of the PV92 section of chromosome 16. Students in periods 1 and 7 completed their research for the bioethics debate.
Wed, Apr 9: Students in period 1 finished their research in preparation for Friday’s debate. Mrs. Annee gave a pre-lab lecture over the PV92 Alu Insertion lab to students in periods 5 and 7.
Tues, Apr 8: Mrs. Annee gave a brief lecture over Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in preparation for this week’s PV92 Chromosome 16 (Alu Insertion) lab. After being presented with a bioethical scenario, students conducted research for an upcoming debate (students in periods 1 and 7 started the research while students in period 5 completed their research).
Mon, Apr 7: Mrs. Annee returned some papers, distributed the PV92 lab for Wednesday, and announced a quiz for next Monday. The quiz will cover the Got Protein? lab, Serum Proteins lab, and isoelectic point. Students completed and submitted their Serum Proteins lab.
