Nov 24-26: DNA Sequencing

Wed, Nov 26: Mrs. Annee returned the mutations quiz.  Students in period 3 organized Help for the Holidays, whereas students in periods 1, 5, and 7 took notes over DNA sequencing.

Tues, Nov 25: Students took a quiz over mutations.  Periods 1 and 5 learned how to read an autorad while students in periods 3 and 7 began an Internet activity called, “That BLASTn DNA!”

Mon, Nov 24: Students completed the DNA Sequencing activity while Mrs. Annee returned graded assignments.  Periods 3 and 7 learned how to read an autorad.

Nov 17-21: Restriction Enzymes and DNA Sequencing

Fri, Nov 21: Mrs. Annee announced a quiz over mutations will take place on Tues, Nov 25.  Students continued working on the DNA sequencing activity.

Thurs, Nov 20: Students completed the Analysis of a Genome lab and submitted it to be graded.  Students began the activity called, “DNA Sequencing: The Sanger Method.”

Wed, Nov 19: Mrs. Annee returned the graded quizzes and handed back some graded assignments.  Mrs. Annee discussed the Analysis of a Genome lab and then students began to analyze their results.

Tues, Nov 18: Students took a quiz over restriction enzymes.

Mon, Nov 17:  Students loaded their samples into gels for the Analysis of a Genome lab.  Period 3 began working on the handout for the lab, while students in periods 1 and 7 completed the Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab.

Nov 10-14: Restriction Enzymes

Fri, Nov 14: Mrs. Annee discussed the Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene in all classes.  Students in periods 3 and 5 completed the analysis of the lab while students in periods 1 and 7 began their analysis of the gel.  All students completed the “Mutation: Revelations of Restriction Enzyme Cut Sites” Internet assignment and prepared samples for the upcoming Analysis of a Genome Segment lab.

Thurs, Nov 13: Students in periods 3 an 5 completed and submitted the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab.  Mrs. Annee gave a pre-lab lecture for the Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab in period 5.  All students began the Internet assignment, “Mutation: Revelations of Restriction Enzyme Cut Sites.”

Wed, Nov 12: Students loaded gels for the Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab.  Periods 1 and 7 completed and submitted the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab.  In periods 1, 3, and 7, Mrs. Annee gave the pre-lab lecture for the Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab.

Tues, Nov 11: Students prepared samples for the Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab and continued analysis of the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab.

Mon, Nov 10: Mrs. Annee discussed Restriction Enzyme Practice Problems II and announced that a quiz over restriction mapping would take place on Tuesday, Nov 18.  Students continued their analysis of the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab.

Nov 3-7: Restriction Enzymes

Fri, Nov 7: Students in periods 3 and 7 discussed additional enzyme practice problems while students.  Mrs. Annee gave a pre-lab lecture for the Anatomy and Evolution of the Genome lab and then students gathered data from the gels.

Thurs, Nov 6:  Students completed the “Exploration of Restriction Enzymes” Internet assignment.  Periods 1 and 5 also discussed some additional restiction enzyme practice problems.

Wed, Nov 5:  Students in periods 1 and 7 began the “Exploration of Restriction Enzymes” Internet assignment, whereas students in periods 3 and 5 did not have class today due to the senior class field trip.

Tues, Nov 4:  Students in all biotech classes loaded gels for the Anatomy and Evolution of the Genome lab.  Students in periods 3 and 5 began the “Exploration of Restriction Enzymes” Internet assignment. Students in periods 1and 7 continued working restriction mapping problems while students in period 7 completed the DNA Restriction Analysis lab. 

Mon, Nov 3:  Students in period 1 completed the DNA Restriction Analysis lab.  Periods 3 and 5 continued working restriction mapping practice problems.
