Jan 25-29: Proteins

Fri, Jan 29: Students took a quiz over PCR and the GM Foods lab.

Thurs, Jan 28:  Students completed the Amino Acid Starter Kit activity.

Wed, Jan 27:  Students completed Part 1 of the Bioinformatics Map of the Beta-Globin Gene activity.

Tues, Jan 26:  Mrs. Annee gave a brief overview of Protein Synthesis (Unit 3 notes) and then students began the Bioinformatics Map of the Beta-Globin Gene activity.

Mon, Jan 25: Mrs. Annee discussed the format of Friday’s quiz over PCR and GM Foods.  Students completed the “Druid Dracula” case study.  Students in period 8 submitted their GM Foods lab.

Jan 18-22: PCR and GMOs

Fri, Jan 23:  Students analyzed their gels for the GM Foods lab.  Periods 2, 4, and 6 completed and submitted their lab analysis handouts.

Thurs, Jan 21:  Mrs. Annee showed students the PCR Song music video from Bio-Rad.  Students began the case study called “The Druid Dracula” and loaded PCR samples from the GM Foods lab into a gel.

Wed, Jan 20:  Students completed the online tutorial for PCR and DNA Profiling.

Tues, Jan 19: Students in periods 2 and 6 completed the online assignment called PCR, DNA Sequencing, and NCBI – What a BLAST! whereas students in periods 4 and 8 set up their GM Foods PCR tubes.

Mon, Jan 18: No school.

Jan 11-15: GMOs and PCR

Fri, Jan 15:  Students watched the first chapter of Bloodlines: Technology Hits Home.

Thurs, Jan 14:  Students in periods 2, 6, and 8 completed and submitted the paper PCR activity.  All students worked on the MOLO PCR online tutorial.

Wed, Jan 13:  Students continued working on the paper PCR activity (students in period 4 completed and submitted the activity).

Tues, Jan 12:  Students in periods 2 and 6 set up their PCR tubes for the GM Foods lab, whereas students in periods 4 and 8 completed the online activity PCR, DNA Sequencing, and NCBI – What a BLAST!

Mon, Jan 11:  Mrs. Annee discussed the GM Foods lab in periods 2 and 6.  All students began the PCR paper activity.

Jan 7 & 8: GMOs

Fri, Jan 8: Students completed Lesson 1 (DNA extraction from food samples) of the GM Foods lab.  Mrs. Annee discussed the lab in periods 4 and 8.

Thurs, Jan 7:  Mrs. Annee returned the first semester final exams in periods 2 and 4.  Mrs. Annee told students which papers to keep as reference for the second semester and also discussed the second semester extra credit book list.  Students received a copy of the “Genetically Modified Foods Lab” and were told to read part of it for tomorrow and the rest for Monday.
