Feb 27-Mar 2: Restriction Enzymes

Fri, Mar 2 – Students worked on the Internet assignment, “Mutation: Revelations of Restriction Enzyme Cut Sites.”

Thurs, Mar 1 – Mrs. Annee returned the Restriction Mapping quizzes and discussed next Wednesday’s quiz over the following two labs: Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome and Analysis of a Genome Segment.

Wed, Feb 29 – Students took the Restriction Mapping quiz. 

Tues, Feb 28 – Mrs. Annee reviewed restriction mapping in preparation for tomorrow’s quiz.

Mon, Feb 27 – Students loaded gels for the “Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene” lab and Mrs. Annee gave students additional restriction mapping practice problems.

Feb 20-24: Restriction Enzymes

Fri, Feb 24 – Mrs. Annee went over the answers to “Restiction Mapping Practice Problems III” and students began the “Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene” lab.

Thurs, Feb 23 – Students completed and submitted the “Analysis of a Genome Segment” lab.

Wed, Feb 22 – Mrs. Annee went over the answers to “Restriction Mapping Practice Problems #2” and announced a restriction mapping quiz (15 points) will take place on Wed, Feb 29.  She also distributed “Restriction Mapping Practice Problems #3.”

Tues, Feb 21 – Students in periods 2, 6, and 8 completed and submitted the lab, “Anatomy & Evolution of a Genome Segment.”  Mrs. Annee continued the discussion of restriction enzymes and distributed “Restriction Mapping Practice Problems #2” in periods 2, 4, 6, and 8.

Mon, Feb 20 – No school.

Feb 13-17: Restriction Enzymes

Fri, Feb 17: Students prepared and ran gels for the lab, “Analysis of a Genome Segment” and continued analysis of data for the lab, “Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome.”

Thurs, Feb 16: Students set up their restriction enzyme digests for the lab, “Analysis of a Genome Segment.”  In addition to this, students in periods 2 and 8 finished watching Three Sisters: Searching for a Cure while students in period 4 and 6 continued analysis of the “Anatomy & Evolution of a Genome Segment” gels.

Wed, Feb 15: Some students attended the Sam Rhine conference while students who remained in class watched the HBO Documentary Three Sisters: Searching for a Cure.

Tues, Feb 14: Mrs. Annee discussed the lab, “Anatomy and Evolution of the Genome” and students measured migration distance of various fragments in their gels.

Mon, Feb 13: Students completed the Internet assignment, “Exploring Restriction Enzymes.”

Feb 6-10: Restriction Enzymes

Fri, Feb 10: Students watched Last Flight of Bomber 31.  The blog post is due Thurs, Feb 16.

Thurs, Feb 9: Students continued working on the Internet assignment, “Exploration of Restriction Enzymes” and prepared gels for the “Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome” lab.

Wed, Feb 8: Students began the Internet assignment, “Exploration of Restriction Enzymes.”

Tues, Feb 7: Students completed the “DNA Scissors” activity and restriction mapping problems.

Mon, Feb 6: Students completed the restriction enzyme lab and continued the “DNA Scissors” activity.
