Apr 28 – May 2: ELISA & Western Blot

Fri, May 2: Students completed Lesson 2 of the Western Blot lab.

Thurs, May 1: Students took a quiz over mutations, SEC, ELISA, and amino acids.

Wed, Apr 30: Students completed Lesson 1 of the Western Blot lab (isolated proteins from fish muscle). 

Tues, Apr 29: Students in periods 2, 6, and 8 completed the ELISA analysis and Mrs. Annee reviewed for Thursday’s quiz (mutations, ELISA, SEC, and amino acids).

Mon, Apr 28: Students in al classes ran an ELISA.  Mrs. Annee reviewed for Thursday’s quiz in period 4 and also discussed Western Blot.

Apr 21-25: Proteins

Fri, Apr 25: Students completed the “Virtual Immunology Lab” and Mrs. Annee announced there will be a quiz (38 pts) over mutations, ELISA, size exclusion chromatography, and amino acids on Mon, May 1.

Thurs, Apr 24: Mrs. Annee discussed the ELISA lab.

Wed, Apr 23: Students learned about amino acids and built a model of an amino acid.

Tues, Apr 22: Students in periods 2 and 8 completed the SEC lab.

Mon, Apr 21: Students in periods 2 and 8 completed the “Mutation of a Hemoglobin Gene” lab and Mrs. Annee discussed Size Exlusion Chromatography (SEC).  Students in periods 4 and 6 completed the SEC lab.

Apr 14-18: Mutations

Fri, Apr 18: No school.

Thurs, Apr 17: Students completed the “Mutation” internet assignment.  Students in periods 4 and 6 completed the “Mutation of a Hemoglobin Gene” lab.

Wed, Apr 16: Mrs. Annee discussed the “Mutation of a Hemoglobin Gene” lab and students began the Internet assignment, “Mutation!: Revelations of Restriciton Enzymes.”  Students in period 8 finished watching, “My Sister’s Keeper.”

Tues, Apr 15: Students in periods 2, 4, and 6 completed the “Analysis of a Genome Segment” lab.

Mon, Apr 14: Students in periods 2, 4, and 6 finished watching “My Sister’s Keeper” whereas students in period 8 completed the “Analysis of a Genome Segment” lab.

Apr 7-11: Restriction Enzymes

Thurs, Apr 10 – Fri, Apr 11: Students watched “My Sister’s Keeper.”

Wed, Apr 9: Students in periods 2, 4, and 6 worked on the “Analysis of a Genome Segment” lab while students in period 8 completed the “Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome” lab.

Tues, Apr 8: Students in periods 2, 4, and 6 completed the “Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome” lab and set up restriction digests for the “Mutant Hemoglobin” lab.

Mon, Apr 7: Students continued analysis of the “Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome” lab and loaded gels for the “Analysis of a Genome Segment” lab.
