Jan 26-30: GM Foods & DNA Barcoding

Fri, Jan 30: Students completed the DNA Barcoding assignment, “Using BLAST and BOLD for Genetic Research.”

Thurs, Jan 29: Students took a quiz over PCR and the GM Foods lab.

Wed, Jan 28: Students completed their final reflection for the GM foods discussion and submitted them.  Students also completed the case study, “The Case of the Druid Dracula.”

Tues, Jan 27: Students conducted a small group scored discussion about GM foods.

Mon, Jan 26: Students in periods 2, 6, and 8 completed the “PCR and DNA Profiling” activity, whereas Mrs. Annee reviewed for Thursday’s GM Foods & PCR quiz in period 4.

Jan 19-23: GM Foods & PCR

Fri, Jan 23: Students completed the “PCR, DNA Sequencing, and NCBI – What a BLAST!” Internet activity.

Thurs, Jan 22: Mrs. Annee reviewed for the PCR and GM Foods lab quiz in periods 2, 6, and 8 (period 4 did not have class).

Wed, Jan 21: Students finished watching King Corn and Mrs. Annee discussed the GM Foods lab questions.  Mrs. Annee announced there will be a 28 points quiz over PCR and the GM Foods lab on Thurs, Jan 29.

Tues, Jan 20: Students continued watching King Corn.

Mon, Jan 19: No school

Fri, Jan 16: Students began watching King Corn.

Thurs, Jan 15: Students conducted research in preparation for their GM Foods Small Group Scored Discussion.

Wed, Jan 14: Students analyzed the GM Foods lab gels and answered lab questions.

Tues, Jan 13: Students ran gels for the GM Foods lab and completed the lab notes.

Mon, Jan 12 (delayed opening):  Students in periods 4 and 8 completed Lesson 2 of the GM Foods lab, whereas students in periods 2 and 6 continued the lab notes. Mrs. Annee also introduced the small group discussion activity over GM Foods (students wrote their initial reaction).

Jan 5-9: PCR & GMOs

Fri, Jan 9: Students in periods 2 and 6 completed Lesson 2 of the GM Foods lab, whereas students in periods 4 and 8 completed Lesson 1 of the lab.

Thurs, Jan 8 (delayed opening):  Students in periods 2 and 6 completed Lesson 1 of the GM Foods lab, whereas students in periods 4 and 8 completed 2/3 of Lesson 1 (extracted DNA from 2 of 3 food samples).

Wed, Jan 7 (delayed opening): Students completed and submitted the paper PCR activity.  Mrs. Annee began discussing the GM Foods lab.

Tues, Jan 6 (delayed opening): Students continued the paper PCR activity.

Mon, Jan 5: Mrs. Annee returned the final exams and students began the paper PCR activity.
