Feb 29 – Mar 4: DNA Barcoding & Genetics

Fri, Mar 4 (Day 1): Mrs. Annee went over the X-linked practice problems and discussed pedigrees.  Students completed and submitted, “Using Genetic Crosses to Analyze a Stickleback Trait.”

Thurs, Mar 3 (Day 5): Students continued working on “Using Genetic Crosses to Analyze a Stickleback Trait” and Mrs. Annee discussed X-linked traits.

Wed, Mar 2 (Day 4): Students began the activity, “Using Genetic Crosses to Analyze a Stickleback Trait.”

Tues, Mar 1 (Day 3): Students completed and submitted Lesson 3, “Using Bioinformatics to Study Evolutionary Relationships.”

Mon, Feb 29 (Day 2): Students ran a gel to determine whether or not they had PCR product for the sushi lab.

Feb 22-26: DNA Barcoding

Mon, Feb 22 (Day 2): Students began the DNA Barcoding (sushi) lab and completed the DNA Barcoding activity, “Using BLAST and BOLD for Genetic Research.”

Tues, Feb 23 (Day 3): Students began the online activity, “Using Bioinformatics to Study Evolutionary Relationships.”

Wed, Feb 24 (Day 4; 1-hr delayed opening): Students extracted DNA from sushi samples.

Thurs, Feb 25 (Day 5): Students took a quiz over GM Foods and PCR.

Fri, Feb 26 (Day 1): Students conducted PCR on the sushi samples.

Feb 15-19: DNA Barcoding

Fri, Feb 19 (Day 1): Students conducted a small group scored discussion about GM foods.

Thurs, Feb 18 (Day 5): Students began the DNA Barcoding activity, “Using BLAST and BOLD for Genetic Research.”

Wed, Feb 17 (Day 4): Mrs. Annee discussed the GM Foods lab and announced a quiz over PCR and GM Foods will take place next Wed, Feb 24.

Mon, Feb 8 (Day 4): Students finished the paper PCR activity and conducted Lesson 2 of the GM Foods lab.

Tues, Feb 9 (Day 5): Mrs. Annee discussed the GM Foods lab and introduced the GM Foods small group scored discussion.

Wed, Feb 10 (Day 1): Students loaded gels for the GM Foods lab and worked on the analysis questions.

Thurs, Feb 11 (Day 2): Students analyzed the GM Foods lab gels and conducted research for the GM Foods small group scored discussion.

Fri, Feb 12 (Day 3): Students conducted research for the GM Foods small group scored discussion.
