Thurs, Nov 5: Mrs. Annee went over the answers to the second set of restriction mapping practice problems and then distibuted a third set of practice problems to students.  She announced the quiz over restriction mapping will take place on Wed, Nov 18.

Wed, Nov 4:  Students learned how to make restriction maps and began analysis of the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab.

Tues, Nov 3: Students loaded gels for the Analysis of a Genome Segment lab.  Students in periods 2 and 6 collected data for the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab while students in period 8 began analyzing the data.

Mon, Nov 2:  Students prepared samples for the Analysis of a Genome Segment lab and Mrs. Annee gave a pre-lab lecture over the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab.  Students in periods 4 and 8 collected data for the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab by measuring migration distance of various bands of DNA.

Thurs, Oct 29:  Mrs. Annee discussed pages 11 and 12 of the Restriction Enzyme lab and the first 5 problems on the Restriction Analysis handout.  Students loaded samples in gels for the Anatomy & Evolution of the Genome lab.

Wed, Oct 28: Students completed the “Exploration of Restriction Enzymes” Internet assignment.

Tues, Oct 27: Mrs. Annee postponed the Unit 2 quiz to Fri, Oct 30.  Students worked on the Restriction Analysis handout.

Mon, Oct 26: Students completed the DNA Scissors activity and Mrs. Annee discussed the answers to the Restriction Enzyme lab.

Thurs, Oct 22: Students took the ELISA quiz.

Wed, Oct 21: Students continued the Restriction Enzyme lab by loading their samples into agarose gels.

Tues, Oct 20: Students prepared their DNA samples for the Restriction Enzyme lab and completed the Unit 2 Notes (DNA).

Mon, Oct 19:  Mrs. Annee returned some graded papers and discussed/reviewed information for Thursday’s ELISA quiz.

Thurs, Oct 15:  Mrs. Annee showed a clip from 60 Minutes that highlights the book The State Boys Rebellion (a book that can be read for extra credit).  Book and movie trailers were also shown for My Sister’s Keeper, Handle with Care, and Still Alice.  Students continued the Unit 2 notes (DNA) and built a model of DNA to be used to demonstrate DNA replication.

Wed, Oct 14:  Classes not in session due to standardized testing.

Tues, Oct 13: Students finished watching Designer Babies and were told that online reflections are due by 11:59PM on Mon, Oct 19.

Mon, Oct 12: Mrs. Annee was out of the building attending Milken award announcements.  Students began watching the movie Designer Babies.

Thurs, Oct 8: Students took a quiz over the Beano lab and Enzyme Substrate Simulation activity.

Wed, Oct 7: Students in periods 4 and 8 completed the Protein Degradation protocol and online DNA Tutorial.  Periods 2 and 6 continued to learn about the structure of DNA (Unit 2 notes)

Tues, Oct 6:  Mrs. Annee discussed each of the books on the extra credit book list.

Mon, Oct 5: Students in periods 4 and 8 learned about SDS-PAGE and DNA structure while students in period 6 completed and submitted their Protein Degradation Study labs.  Period 2 did not meet today due to a mandatory senior class meeting.

Thurs, Oct 1: Periods 2 and 6 completed the Protein Degradation lab protocol while students in periods 4 and 8 are working on creating a paper model of DNA.

Wed, Sept 30:  Students in all biotech classes finished the Three Sisters movie.  Mrs. Annee discussed SDS-PAGE in periods 2 and 6 whereas she began the Unit 2 (DNA) notes in periods 4 and 8.

Tues, Sept 29: Students performed the ELISA lab.

Mon, Sept 28: No school.

Thurs, Sept 24: Students took a self-quiz in preparation for tomorrow’s Unit 1 quiz.  Students also began watching the HBO Documentary Three Sisters: Searching for a Cure.

Wed, Sept 23:  Students completed and submitted The Virtual Immunology Lab.

Tues, Sept 22: Students in periods 2, 4, and 8 completed and submitted their Amylase labs and took notes over the ELISA lab.  Students in period 6 graphed their Amylase results.

Mon, Sept 21:  Students finished the Unit 1 notes.  Periods 2, 4, and 8 graphed the Amylase results while students in period 6 took notes over the ELISA lab.

Thurs, Sept 17:  Students in periods 2 and 8 continued the Unit 1 notes while periods 4 and 6 built molecular structures of amino acids.

Wed, Sept 16:  Students submitted their completed Beano labs.  Periods 2 and 6 completed Amylase Part IIA while students in periods 4 and 8 complted Part IIC of the same lab.

Tues, Sept 15:  Students graphed the data from the Beano lab.

Mon, Sept 14:  Students in periods 2 and 8 completed Part IID of the Amlyase lab whereas students in periods 4 and 6 continued with the Unit 1 notes.

Thurs, Sept 10:  Students began Part IIB of the Amylase lab.

Wed, Sept 9:  Students began graphing Beano data.

Tues, Sept 8: Students in periods 2 and 6 completed the Beano lab and Part I of the Amylase lab.   Periods 4 and 8 completed Part I of the Amylase lab.
