Jan 26-30: GM Foods & Protein Synthesis

Fri, Jan 30: Mrs. Annee announced there will be a quiz over PCR and the GM Foods lab on Wed, Feb 4.  Students began the Unit 4 notes (protein synthesis) and then started the Beta-Globin Gene Exercise activity.

Thurs, Jan 29: Students participated in a small group scored discussion about GM foods.

Wed, Jan 28:  No school today due to snow.

Tues, Jan 27: Students completed the online virtual lab called, “PCR, DNA Sequencing, and NCBI-What a BLAST!”

Mon, Jan 26: Students continued their research of GM foods in preparation for Wednesday’s graded discussion.

Jan 20-23: GMOs and King Corn

Fri, Jan 23: Students began their research on GM foods in preparation for the graded discussion that will take place next Wed, Jan 28.

Thurs, Jan 22: Mrs. Annee added the book, Still Alice, to the extra credit book list.  Students in period 3 discussed King Corn while students in periods 1, 5, and 7 continued watching the film.

Wed, Jan 21: Students continued watching King Corn.

Tues, Jan 20: Students in periods 1, 3, and 7 began watching the documentary King Corn in preparation for an upcoming discussion on GM foods.  Period 1 and 7 students completed and submitted their GM Foods lab.  The period 5 PRT class was cancelled (by the admin) so students could watch the presidential inauguration.   Mrs. Annee extended the extra credit statement deadline until Friday, Jan 23.

Jan 12-16: PCR

Fri, Jan 16: Students continued analysis of the GM Foods lab

Thurs, Jan 15: Students continued analysis of the GM Foods lab

Wed, Jan 14: Mrs. Annee concluded the discussion of the GM Foods lab and then students began analysis of their gels.

Tues, Jan 13: Students prepared, loaded, and ran gels for the GM Foods lab.  Also, Mrs. Annee began the discussion of the lab.

Mon, Jan 12: Students in all classes completed and submitted the paper PCR activity.  Periods 1 and 7 completed the online PCR tutorial.  Students in periods 1 and 5 set up their PCR reaction tubes for the GM Foods lab.

Jan 6-9: PCR and GMOs

Jan 9, 2008: Period 3 and 7 students prepared their PCR reaction tubes for the GM Foods lab.  Students in periods 1 and 5 continued the paper PCR activity.

Jan 8, 2009: Students prepared food samples for the GM Foods lab.  Additionally, students in periods 3 and 5 completed an interactive online tutorial about PCR.

Jan 7, 2009: Students took notes over PCR and continued the PCR paper activity.

Jan 6, 2009: Mrs. Annee returned the final exams and then discussed extra credit for second semester as well as the annual CSI Event.  Mrs. Annee also told students which handouts they need to keep for the second semester. 

Jan 5, 2009: Final day of winter break; sleep well because it’s going to be an exciting semester in biotech!
