Feb 25-29: Protein Folding & Mutations

Fri, Feb 29: Students took the Unit 4 & Protein Folding quiz and then began analysis of the Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab. 

Thurs, Feb 28: Mrs. Annee discussed the alternative splicing hypothesis.  Students in all classes completed the “Mutation!: Revelations of Restriction Enzyme Cut Sites” Internet activity.  Students in periods 1 and 7 completed the Beta-Globin Folding activity. 

Wed, Feb 27:  Students took a self-quiz in preparation for Friday’s Unit 4 & Protein Folding quiz.  Students loaded gels in preparation of the Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab.

Tues, Feb 26: Mrs. Annee introduced the Analysis of a Mutant Hemoglobin Gene lab by giving a brief pre-lab lecture and then students prepared the samples for the lab.  Students in periods 1 and 7 continued the Beta-Globin Folding activity, whereas students in period 5 completed the activity.

Mon, Feb 25: Students submitted the Protein Folding Study lab to Mrs. Annee and continued the Beta-Globin Folding activity.  Mrs. Annee announced a Unit 4 quiz over protein synthesis and protein folding will take place on Friday, Feb 29.
